October 30, 2000 Portsmouth East to Perform in OMEA Finals The Portsmouth East Marching Band will be traveling to Kent, Ohio this weekend to perform in OMEA State Finals. The band hopes to continue its legacy of excellence by achieving its fourth straight OMEA Finals Superior (I) Rating. The event will be held at Kent University's Dix Stadium on Saturday, November 04, 2000. Portsmouth East's performance time is 12:45PM, and the awards ceremony for the block will be at approximately 2PM. Also performing on Saturday will be local friends Green High School, at 4PM (awards at 6PM), as well as this year's Portsmouth East sponsored Blue & White Marching Band Invitational Competition champions, Berne Union at 7:30PM (awards at 8:30PM). If it is possible, you may also want to check out Sunday's (November 05) lineup of local bands in OMEA State Finals performance at Welcome Stadium in Dayton, Ohio. Ironton performs at 12:45PM and Portsmouth West at 1PM (both band's awards will be given at 1:30PM); Northwest will also be performing on Sunday at 6:15PM (awards at 8:15PM). Several local bands and usual friendly competitors of Portsmouth East have already performed in the first weekend of OMEA State Finals (October 28-29). On Saturday at the Columbus Crew Stadium in Columbus, Ohio, local bands Dawson-Bryant (the website apologizes to Dawson-Bryant for its failure to report your qualification for State Finals; we were not intending to slight you, we just didn't receive the news) and Minford both performed, and received excellent ratings (II). Gallia Academy, another friend to East performed on Saturday, and also received an excellent rating (II). Fairfield Union, Westerville South, Fort Frye, Chillicothe, Athens, Westland, Waterford, Bloom Carroll, Meigs, and Lancaster (all bands that Portsmouth East has competed with or has association with) also performed on Saturday, but their ratings have not been reported to the webmaster as of yet. On Sunday, at Welcome Stadium in Dayton, Ohio, local band Rock Hill and Cincinnati's McNicolas (each band boasting Portsmouth East Alumni in its staff*) received excellent ratings for their performances. Bands with association with Portsmouth East, but with unknown ratings are: Tri-Valley, Warren Local, Fairfield, Newark, and Sycamore (1999 Blue & White Champion). Congratulations to all of the bands that have already performed in OMEA Finals! Good luck to all of those bands that have yet to perform! *
