14 October 2001 East Receives Highest Score of Year at Nelsonville York In competition on Saturday, October 13, at Nelsonville York's Buckeye Classic, the East Marching Band received second place Class A, as well as receiving the second highest overall score (although no awards were presented in overall competition). The band's score of 263.8 ranks as the band's highest score of the year (in fact, the highest in two years). In close competition, Athens received First Place, Class A honors, edging past East's 263.8 with a 265.7. East took the Second Place, Class A award, with Philo's score of 259.6 ranked them Third Place, Class A. With only 6.1 points difference between Third and First Places, it shows just how exciting the competition was between the top bands (these three band's were also the top three overall). Also in Class A awards, East's Color Guard won Best Auxiliary, Class A, ranking third overall, with Logan Elm (Class B) being the highest scored guard, and Licking Valley (Class B) coming in second. The band's marching ranked Best Marching, Class A, as well as being the highest marching score (by over 5 points in the averaged final score) of the show. Philo's percussion received Best Percussion honors in Class A, in addition to being the best scored at the competition. Rounding out the awards in Class A, Athens won both Best Music and Best General Effect in Class A. Class C Awards Best Auxiliary : Federal
