28 October 2001 East to Perform in State Finals Today The East High School Marching Band, one of only 11 bands in the State to perform in Class C, will take the field in OMEA State Finals performance today (Sunday, October 28). Although bands in State Finals do not directly compete against one another, the goal is to receive the coveted Superior Rating. If the band accomplishes this task, the band will have received this honor for five consecutive years (six times in the last seven years). Although the band has qualified in all four school size classifications (C, B, A, AA--smallest to largest), East will perform as a Class C band. Today's OMEA State Finals activities will be held at Welcome Stadium in Dayton, Ohio. East's performance time is 4:00PM. The band would also like to mention that out of the 11 Class C bands participating in State Finals this year, four of them compete in the same areas as East has, and two of those are local (to East) area bands. The local area's Class C schools will be represented by, in addition to East, Green and Dawson-Bryant (Coal Grove). East's friends abroad in the Class C division are Waterford and Fort Frye. Good luck; let's show the State how good a small band can be! Also representing the local area in State Finals performances are Rock Hill (Class B), Ironton (Class B) and Northwest (Class B). Bands whom East has seen in competition, and will also be performing in State Finals are as follows: Bloom Carroll (Class B), Canal Winchester (Class B), Gallia Academy (Class A), Licking Heights (Class B), Athens (Class A), Berne Union (Class A), Franklin Heights (Class A), McNicholas (Class A), Meigs (Class A), Philo (Class A), Stebbins (Class A), Teays Valley (Class A), Beavercreek (Class AA), Lancaster (Class AA), Marietta (Class AA), Newark (Class AA), Reynoldsburg (Class AA), and Westerville North (Class AA). Congratulations to all of the bands on your accomplishments this year, and good luck in your quest for your Superior Rating! |
