20 October 2002 East Concludes Regular Season With 1st Runner-Up Grand Champion The East Tartan Regiment placed second overall, and second in Class A at the 17th Annual Festival of Bands held by Green High School on 19 October 2002. In addition, the band's percussion placed second overall and second in Class A, and the guard placed third overall, and second in Class A. The band also qualified for OMEA State Finals as a Class A band, receiving its highest score of the season. East would also like to recognize Central Crossing on their amazing achievement. In their first year in existence as a band (and as a school), this Columbus area band has "qualified at all of their appearances", and ended their season with a Grand Champion award. East would like to congratulate them on an inaugural year that surely points to a future legacy of excellence. Also, East would like to congratulate Symmes Valley on their high placement and score. While all eyes were on the "obvious" bands in the area, Symmes Valley was able to jump in and finish their season with their highest placement in many, many years. It is a travesty that Symmes Valley did not qualify for State Finals with their score of 240 (for that matter, many bands, like Minford with a 237 score), but the band should not be upset for they have proven to everybody that they are not to be ignored. Here's to a bright future for Symmes Valley!!! Class C Awards Percussion - 2nd Place:

Symmes Valley Thank you to all of the bands that competed this year; you are keeping this activity alive and fresh! It is always a treat to see the bands progress throughout the year, and 2002 kept all of the bands "on their feet", not knowing which band would take the next show. To those bands that qualified, good luck at State Finals. To those that didn't, your shows were fantastic, and in most cases deserving of qualification (I know; I saw most of them); it has become hard for the OMEA judges to acclimate themselves to the new guidelines and unfortunately, many bands fell victim to their inconsistencies. Keep your heads up in the performances (if any) you do have left, and feel pride in your wonderful shows: it really is all about the performance and not the trophy. |
