September 12th, 1998 - Rock Hill

Class C Awards:  Second Place Percussion, Best Field Commander, Best Auxiliary, Best Marching, Best General Effect, Best Music, Best Overall Class C Band

Overall Awards:  1st Runner-Up Grand Champion, Best General Effect, Best Overall Auxiliary, Best Overall Field Commander

Winner of Grand Champion at Rock Hill was Meigs High School.   Congratulations Meigs High School!!!

September 19th, 1998 - Ironton High School

Class C Awards:  1st Place Auxiliary, 1st Place Percussion, 1st Place Field Commander, Best Class C Band

Overall Awards:  GRAND CHAMPION, Best Auxiliary, Best Field Commander

September 26th, 1998 - Dawson Bryant

Class C Awards:  1st Place Band

Overall Awards:  GRAND CHAMPION

September 26th, 1998 - Cabell-Midland Competitions

Class A Awards:  Best Field Commander, Second Place Auxiliary, Second Place Percussion, Best Class A Band

Overall Awards:  GRAND CHAMPION

October 3rd, 1998 - Charleston Civitan (Special Event)

Civitan Class AAAA Awards: 2nd Place Auxiliary, 2nd Place Field Commander, 2nd Place Band

Portsmouth East was 1st Runner-Up to Grand Champion, although no award was given for being runner-up.  The point spread was less than one point (.9 to be exact), so it was very close and exciting.

Grand Champion Award went to Parkersburg High School.   Congratulations Parkersburg!!!

October 10th, 1998 - Portsmouth West Competition

West Class B Awards: 1st Place Auxiliary, 1st Place Percussion, 1st Place Band

West Overall Awards:  Best Auxiliary,  Grand Champion

October 10th, 1998 - 16th Annual Blue & White Invitational

October 17th, 1998 - Bands of America Regionals Competition - Cincinnati

Portsmouth East placed 16th out of the 32 bands.  Regionals hosts the very best bands of a wide area, so 16th place is an extreme honor for a band the size of Portsmouth East.

Congratulations go out to all the bands competing at BOA Regionals, Cincinnati.  Congratulations to Harrison County, KY for your first place finish in Finals!

October 24th, 1998 - Green High School Marching Band Competition

Class A Awards: 2nd Place Percussion, 1st Place Color Guard, 1st Place Field Commander, 2nd Place Band

Overall Awards: Best Color Guard, Best Field Commander, 1st Runner-Up Grand Champion

Just a quick note.  Ryan Keys, Field Commander, recieved an East High School record score of 98.7 out of 100.  The Color Guard also recieved possibly their best ever score with a 96 out of 100.

Congratulations go out to the Paul G Blazer (Ashland, Ky) Band on their Grand Champion performance at Green!

October 31st, 1998 - OMEA STATE FINALS

Superior Rating

Once again, Portsmouth East received the top honor of the State of Ohio.   At this point, Portsmouth East had received 5 superior ratings throughout the history of OMEA State Finals, including three from the previous four years (since 1995).
