Sciotoville's East Tartan Regiment Proudly Presents

Adapted exclusively for the East Tartan Regiment by longtime East music instructor Dennis Johnson, Larry Clark's "The Tell-Tale Heart" was the Regiment's 2003 competition field show. Based on the story by Edgar Allen Poe (click here to read the complete story at Literature.org), "The Tell-Tale Heart" uses music to tell the macabre tale. Dennis masterfully captured the nuances of the original piece, "telling the tale" of a madman who's guilt over a murder manifests in his mind as the incessant beating of his victim's heart.

To visually match some of the most difficult music the Tartan Regiment had ever attempted on the field, drill writer and visual technician Bill Burroway provided an innovative and unique drill and general effects package. Instead of relying exclusively on inspiration from Drum Corps International or Bands of America performers, Bill's visual package also incorporated elements of Winter Guard International; he created a seamless combination to create something never-before-seen on the OMEA competition circuit.

"The Tale Tell Heart" became the East Tartan Regiment's 10th straight OMEA State Finals qualifying shows, a show that also won numerous honors at the regional level. As always, the rewards of the 2003 season not only show the benefits of hard work, but also the importance of such artistic programs in our schools. It's not only the recognition by the judges of a good job, but also the recognition by the students themselves that they were involved in the creation of a work of art that makes the experience beneficial to the development of our youth.
